Presented by St. John Paul II Scioto Catholic Parish Director of Sacred Music, Patrick Torsell, participants will deep-dive into:

>The history of Gregorian chant
>The role of chant in the Catholic liturgy
>How to read chant notation and identify and interpret neumes
>Solesmes-method of chant rhythm interpretation
>An introduction to chant modes
>Basic vocal technique for effective chanting
>Fundamental Latin pronunciation

Throughout the day, participants will learn and sing multiple beautiful Gregorian chants, including selected parts of the Ordinary of the Mass, proper antiphons, chant hymns, and psalm tones.

This intensive workshop is geared toward adults or mature youth who already have some musical knowledge, and wish to learn--in a single day--all of the fundamentals of Gregorian chant. Church music directors, cantors, organists, and choristers are strongly encouraged to attend!
