Mr. Patrick Torsell
Director of Sacred Music | Titular Organist
Director's Bio
Patrick began studying the organ at age 8 in Bellefonte, PA, later assuming his first professional role at 11. His primary pursuit has been Gregorian Chant accompaniment and improvisation, and he has a particular affinity for the French Romantic compositional style and the associated French school of improvisation.

Patrick relocated from the Rocky Mountains of Colorado to southern Ohio with his family in 2025 to join the parish team at St. John Paul II Scioto Catholic Parish, while establishing a homestead farm in nearby Adams County.
His previous appointments include Staff Organist at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, Denver, CO (2022-2024), Director of Music and Organist at St. Lawrence, Harrisburg, PA (2017-2020), organist at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Littleton, CO (2013-2017), seminarian organist at Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary (2011-2013), Principal Organist and Choirmaster at Blessed Sacrament, Stowe, VT (2006-2011), and organist at St. John the Evangelist, Bellefonte, PA (2000-2005). In addition to sacred music, Patrick also enjoyed a 17-year professional career in ski resort management.

Patrick is also a devoted proponent of liturgical and sacred music catechesis and formation. He has served on the faculty of the 2026 Floriani Collegium and the 2023 & 2024 Colorado Sacred Music Conference, contributed to the sacred music blog at Corpus Christi Watershed, and hosts a YouTube series, Chant Talk.
While his primary focus has always been sacred liturgical music, he also pursues a leisurely performance career, typically playing 2-3 concerts per year. Beyond sacred music, Patrick was a founding member and pianist in the Leadville, CO based jazz quartet, Pitch Black Jazz, and he also plays acoustic guitar and brass (trumpet & trombone).
