Chant Camp 2026

Chant Camp Form

St. John Paul II Scioto Catholic Parish Chant Camp 2026

Led by Mr. Patrick Torsell, Director of Sacred Music

The 2026 St. John Paul II Scioto Catholic Parish 2-day Chant Camp will immerse young people (ages 6-18) in the beautiful music of the Catholic Church. Campers will learn foundational singing techniques, explore liturgical catechesis, and learn some of the Church's beautiful chants and hymns. There will be two camp tracks: one for younger children ages 6-11, and one for youth ages 12-18 to provide age-appropriate instruction. Campers will conclude the event by singing for the 5:30pm Mass at St. Mary's on Friday, 8/7. Lunch and snacks will be provided both days, and there will be various games and recreational opportunities during breaks.

Who: Children and youth ages 6-18 from St. John Paul II or other nearby parishes who want to learn about music & liturgy, sing together, and enjoy wholesome Catholic fellowship

What: 2-Day "Chant Camp" immersing campers in Catholic music

Where: St. Mary Activity Center, 514 Market St., Portsmouth, OH

When: Thursday, 8/6 (9am-4pm) and Friday, 8/7 (9am-after 5:30pm Mass)

Why: Beauty is one of the primary means by which souls encounter God, and music does this in a potent way.
